This is a great and easy idea for serving a crowd – this take on the popular traditional Sausage Balls allows you to mix together any combination of ground meat, cheese, and either our regular or seasoned flour for a tasty appetizer that can’t be beat!

See below the basic recipe for variations

1 pound ground meat of choice

2c cheese of choice or dairy free sub like Daiya

1 1/2 c (6 ounces or 170g) Better Batter Gluten Free Flour OR seasoned flour

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 c water

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

To make – blend together flour or seasoned flour and baking powder. Add cheese and toss to coat. Add ground meat and mix together well until a crumbly texture is formed. Add enough water to create a ‘play dough’ or meatloaf like texture.

Roll mixture into balls about 1/2 inch in diameter and place on a cookie sheet.

Bake for 25 minutes or until golden and crisp.

Traditional Balls – use bulk breakfast sausage for the meat, cheddar cheese for the cheese, and seasoned flour.

Italian Balls – use bulk ground Italian sausage (hot or sweet) for the meat, mozzarella or Italian blend for the cheese, and plain Better Batter Flour. Add 1/2 tsp of salt to the blend before adding water.

Greek/Middle Eastern Balls –use ground beef or lamb for the meat, feta cheese for the cheese, and plain Better Batter Flour. Add 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp oregano to the blend before adding water.

Asian Balls –use ground chicken or pork for the meat, omit the cheese and sub in 1/2 c grated onion and 1 clove minced garlic instead, and plain Better Batter Flour. Add 1/2 tsp of sesame oil and 1 Tbsp soy sauce to the blend before adding water.

Quick and Easy – use any meat and cheese combination above, plus any called for seasonings you wish (omitting salt), but sub in Better Batter pancake and biscuit mix for the flour and baking powder.
