Summer break is finally here, and moms everywhere are trying to figure out how to occupy their children. Why not make this fantastic gluten free play dough for your children? Fast and easy (made in a microwave) in three minutes, this recipe is great. You may use any coloring agent you desire (food color; natural food color – such as turmeric) or use koolaid for a great smelling dough. This recipe makes enough for 1 color, one cup batch, but you can feel free to double or triple the recipe and leave the food color out until you knead the dough, to make larger amounts.
1 c (4oz or 130 g) Better Batter Gluten Free Flour
1/2 c salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 1/2 c water
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
Food coloring of choice (you may use artificial, natural, or koolaid)
Mix together dry ingredients in a large, microwave proof bowl. In a separate bowl mix together water, oil, and food coloring of choice. Whisk together the wet and dry ingredients. Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir. Repeat 5 more times, or until you have microwaved for a total of 3 minutes. (time may vary based on your microwave). Allow to cool completely – mixture should continue to thicken as it cools. Remove from bowl and knead well to make smooth. If mixture is still too sticky, feel free to knead in up to 2 tbsp additional Better Batter flour to make a smooth, pliable dough.
Store tightly covered.
