We were touched and moved by Colin’s desire to help others. This young man started this walk as a way to raise awareness of the disease and funds for research so that others like him wouldn’t have to suffer. He did this all at the tender age of 14!! Colin has been able to raise over $100,000 for research. We are proud to help sponsor this event, and we’re excited to have you join us! 5% of the proceeds from every sale of product made during the month of October will be donated to the Colin Leslie Walk for Celiac Disease
Here’s a little more about the fundraiser, from Colin himself – feel free to donate directly:
My name is Colin Leslie and I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in November of 2005. I am currently 17 years old.
After being diagnosed, I decided I wanted to make a difference in the Celiac Disease community. I contacted the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University and told them that I wanted to host a walk in Rye, NY. They were thrilled and told me to contact the Westchester Celiac Sprue Support Group for help on how to proceed. With these two organizations, the first Colin Leslie Walk for Celiac Disease was hosted. It raised over $62,471.73 for the Celiac Disease Center and had 422 people in attendance.
The second year the event raised $50,310.69 and attracted over 1000 people. The third year the walk’s earnings were joined by an additional $48,699.89 and another 900 people attended.
The walk’s successes prompted me to hold this event again. This year the event will include a vendor fair and an available gluten free lunch. By having this event I hope to bring awareness to a condition which is severely under recognized by the general public. With your help this event will once again be a success. I hope to see you at this year’s Colin Leslie Walk for Celiac Disease.
